MAR VERDE
Nampula, Ilha de Moçambique 2019
Ilha de Mocambique is known as the breathing ground for the Mozambique that exists today, pivotal to role of pre-colonial and colonial routes of exchange.
Today as I cross this bridge on my way to Ilha, the water that surrounds us is inhabited by boats, sailors and fishermen.
I can’t help but imagine a time where this very passage was populated with war ships, harboring traders, eager explorers and ofcourse conquistadors.
Now their ships lay rest in the bottom of these waters, their relics left to rust and
their conquests gone with the tide.

I again think of these sailors, fishermen and vendors beside me, as they sail those same waters, and I wonder if they too ever think about that on this passage?
